Plus, Boston restaurants and bars equipped with televisions are now required to turn on closed captioning — and more intel

During a radio appearance on GBH this week, Mayor Michelle Wu disclosed that the city snagged coffee cake from Hyde Park bakery My Grandma’s of New England to serve to the royals while they were in town earlier this month. The Boston Globe reports that the bakery donated three cakes for Wu to have on hand while welcoming Prince William and Kate: granny smith apple, a “Red, White, and Blue Patriot” cake with cranberries and blueberries, and the bakery’s most popular flavor, cinnamon walnut. Owner Bob Katz tells the Globe that he sent over two more cakes, chocolate and pineapple coconut, for the royals to bring home to the kids. Rectangle Bakery Box

Katz bought the 42-year-old, Newton-born bakery in 1993 and moved it to Hyde Park in 1997, according to the Globe. The shop runs a mail-order business and stocks the cakes at a ton of local grocery stores including Stop & Shop and Shaw’s. Over the years, the popular bakery has seen its fair share of stardom — its coffee cakes have been mentioned on T.V. shows including The Sopranos — and Katz expects to sell more than one million cakes this year.

Neighborhood residents Luis Espinoza and Craig Panzer have opened a new craft brewery in Hyde Park called Roundhead Brewing. The launch was made possible with the help of over 200 local investors that participated in a crowdfunding campaign for the brewery, according to Boston Business Journal.

The highly anticipated restaurant and jazz club, led in part by Darryl’s Corner Kitchen & Bar owner Nia Grace, won plan approval from the city’s zoning board this week, Universal Hub reports. Up next? Securing liquor, food, and entertainment licenses.

Boston restaurants and bars with public-facing televisions must start turning on closed captioning according to an ordinance signed by the mayor last Friday, Caught in Southie reports.
