A DISABLED man having to fix his ceiling with masking tape after rats chew through water pipes blames a housing association for "incredibly poor treatment".

Robert Stinton, of Powick, said the ceiling in his house has fallen through due to water damage caused by vermin in the roof.

He has lived in a bungalow provided by Platform Housing Association since 2017.

Mr Stinton said: "I have been treated incredibly poorly with repairs to my home by Platform.

"I am severely asthmatic, I have two pins in my knee due to a motorcycle crash, and I also suffer from PTSD and migraines.

"It is totally unfair to treat people like this, I cannot keep affording to by masking tape to temporarily cover the damage, I need it fixed. It is not fit for me to live like this."

Mr Stinton said the problems started back in December when he was away visiting his sister and rats or squirrels began chewing water pipes.

He said: "In December, I was away in Wales visiting my sister who is suffering from cancer when I was alerted that vermin had chewed through the plastic piping in my house and water damage had caved the ceiling in.

"I had to cut my visit short and come back home. After reporting the incident and a bit of back and forth regarding payment, Platform eventually came to fix the damage, but it happened again in January.

"I did not want to have the same people returning as they had left my house in a terrible state, with dust and debris everywhere, which just seemed incredibly unprofessional.

"I asked if somebody different could come to help and they told me it would take three months, which during that time the ceiling had to be supported with masking tape to block any holes and other damage.

"They were due to fix the ceiling on Monday, May 23, and when the electrician did not arrive at the property so I have been told I have to wait until July 12."

Dennis Evans, executive director at Platform Housing Group said: "We are sorry to hear of the issues that Mr Stinton has reported; our customers' health and well being is at the very heart of what we do.

"We have visited Mr Stinton's home on a number of occasions and have carried out and completed a variety of different repairs.

"We are aware that he has contacted his local council who are responsible for pest control and this is being dealt with. We are booked in for a final visit to complete the work. "
